Pomp and colour as William Ruto is sworn in as the 5th President of Kenya with outgoing President Uhuru presiding over a smooth transition of power

There were light moments when the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua struggled to take his two oaths. He had to repeat the second oath

It was pomp and ceremony and a riot of colours as President William Ruto was sworn in together with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua at a fully packed Kasarani stadium in Nairobi with about 20 head of states present.

Retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta handed the instruments of power principally the Kenyan constitution, and the ceremonial sword much to the delight of the thousands that were in attendance.

Pastor Mark Kariuki asked Ruto and Gachagua to kneel down for prayer and asked Kenyans wherever they are to kneel down and pray.

He prayed for the two and the peace that the country had enjoyed and asked them to lead the country with God given wisdom.

He asked the new President not to revenge because of the bad things that may have been said about him or those done to him but instead bring the country together.

Immediately after his swearing in, President Uhuru’s aide-camp switched sides left Uhuru and joined Ruto, and as the National Anthem was being played, Ruto’s presidential standard was raised followed by a 21-gun salute as the handover of power was completed.
