Emotions ran high as outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta and the First Lady Margaret bid farewell to State House staff who have served them for the last 10 years on Monday – being his last day at State House.
The State House Kenya leadership team was led by Comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua during the Monday evening meeting.
At a meeting, also attended by Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua, the outgoing Head of State thanked the officers for distinguished service during his tenure and advised them to serve the new administration with the same enthusiasm.
Uhuru is proceeding to retirement on Tuesday afternoon after handing over power to his former deputy William Ruto who was declared President-elect after winning the August 8 presidential elections.
Earlier in the day at State House, President Uhuru invited Ruto for a meeting and later on conducted him to a tour of the house that is the seat of power for Kenya.
