Raila is set to win the August 2022 presidential election in round one, says Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru

Information and Communications Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru says all indications and information available indicate that Raila Odinga will win the presidential election with a landslide in August 2022.

Mucheru expressed confidence that Raila will win in round one as he will easily pass the 50+1 mark that is required by the constitution for one to be declared a winner.

He made the remarks when he appeared in a vernacular station on Sunday night where he said even DP William Ruto and his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have panicked after it became apparent from them that Raila will win in round one.

Mucheru said he does not understand why he has been a constant target of UDA brigade who keep fighting him and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i saying he could only conclude that they have panicked and are now busy looking for scapegoats.

“Baba (Raila Odinga) will win round one. All information including opinion polls indicate it will be a landslide for Raila. The other side knows this and that is why they are panicking. They have panicked and are now looking for an excuse,” said Mucheru.

On election preparedness, Mucheru said that question would best be answered by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which has the mandate to manage and conduct elections.

He said on the part of government, they have ensured that IEBC is properly facilitated to enable it carry its job effectively.

Mucheru said the government’s role is merely for licensing and facilitation which they have done and rest is for all other agencies to do their job according to the law.
