At his hey days and before his death the late Nicholas Biwott – once a powerful operative during the Kanu regime only trusted one man – William Chepkut – who died earlier today.
Former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut has died while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
Chepkut was first hospitalised late 2021 after falling and sustaining injuries and has been out and in hospital ever since.
After serving as the personal assistant to the late Nicholas Biwott – a billionaire and former powerful Cabinet minister during the Moi regime – Chepkut vied for the Ainabkoi parliamentary seat in 2017 and won.
He fought to recapture the seat in the August 9, 2022 general elections but lost to Samuel Chepkonga partly because of the health challenges.
A man of the people Chepkut had friends from across thw political divide and many visited him as he recuperated.
Many expressed shock and disbelief after the family released the news of his death.
The former MP is said to have collapsed at his home and was taken to a hospital in Parklands where he was pronounced dead, blamed on a blood clot and high blood pressure.
Last year, Chepkut had been admitted to hospital and remained in admission for two months following an accident at a hotel, where he missed a step and fell down a flight of stairs, rolling over several times.
He also had an accident which necessitated his being taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Chepkut has been described by family and friends as a humble and friendly leader.
He previously ran two popular hotels in Eldoret where he also owns a farm in Ainabkoi Chepkut constituency.
