Uhuru showers Raila with praises, Kisumu erupts in joy

President Uhuru Kenyatta showered ODM leader Raila Odinga with praises saying it has been a great pleasure working with him since the handshake.

As Kisumu erupted in joy and the air filled with brand new songs praising Uhuru, the handshake partners enjoyed a carnival mood at the lakeside city.

Uhuru fell short of endorsing Raila when in a loaded statement said whatever the future held, he would be happy to work with the man he referred to affectionately as Jakom.

Addressing the 58th Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu, Uhuru said Raila accepted the handshake without demands.

He said it has been a great pleasure working for the former prime minister amid applause from the crowd.

Uhuru said he was taking the opportunity of Raila for embracing our national pain over his personal gain, when we did the Handshake.

“What is more: he did this without asking or demanding anything from me. That is why it has been a great pleasure working with him,” he said.

And in what appeared like a great endorsement of Raila as a national leader, Uhuru promised to work with him in the future.

“Whatever the future holds, I look forward to working with him and all Kenyans to build a better, brighter, more united and prosperous Kenya, East Africa and Africa,” said in a heavily loaded message.

Uhuru took a swipe at the Judiciary moments after welcoming the first female Chief Justice Martha Koome to the crowd.

He said the Judiciary while making their decisions must consider the letter of the law, but fundamentally, the spirit of the law must also guide them.
