Political bombshell as Ruto flies Raila to Uganda to meet Museveni

Kenya’s political scene was shaken on Monday night after it emerged that President Ruto had flown opposition leader Raila Odinga to meet Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni.

The heavy political news were broken by President Ruto on his social media accounts setting the political landscape literally on fire.

President Ruto shared close up images of himself, Raila and President Museveni in animated conversations.

He said among the issues they discussed were Raila’s candidacu to the Africa Union Commission chairmanship where Raila has expreassed interest.

He said Kenya and Uganda are committed to the deepening of the long-established diplomatic and economic ties between our two countries.

“This relationship includes bringing all the seven East African Community nations closer in their ultimate goal to form the East African Political Federation.

Had the pleasure of meeting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at his Kisozi country home in Uganda. We discussed critical issues that affect our two countries such as energy and petroleum.

Also discussed was the declared candidacy of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship'” said President Ruto.

Political pundits went on an overdrive to try make sense of the seismic political move by President Ruto.

By endorsing Raila for the position some saw it a clever way to remove his main obstacle for the 2027 re-election bid – that now looks like a walkover.

Others saw as a cunning way by Raila to exit the Kenya political scence in a dignified manner have tried to be president for five times and failing.

Yet others are of the view that the opposition is now dead including what was left of Raila’s Azimio Coalition.
