“If I have wronged you, find it in your heart to forgive me’ If my spouse Pastor Dorcas has wronged you, please forgive her,” said Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday
In a dramatic twist to the impeachment debate, a remorseful Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked President Ruto to forgive him for any wrongs that he may have committed in his eagerness and zeal to work for Kenyans
DP Gachagua speaking on Sunday during a Church Service at his official Karen Residence further asked Member of Parliament (MPs) and all Kenyans in general to forgive him for any wrong he may have committed.
He said while eager to please the people from Mt Kenya and Rift Valley who voted for President William Ruto and himself, he may have said words that may have rubbed sections of Kenyans the wrong way and that he was sorry for it and seeks forgiveness.
Gachagua said the last two years in office together with President Ruto have been challenging and that he was seeking forgiveness for the sake of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
“I want to ask my brother Ruto that If I have wronged him in any way, please find it in your heart to forgive me,” he stated.
The DP also asked President Ruto to forgive his spouse Dorcas Rigathi, while referring to her recent engagement programs that include the championing of boys’ rights in the country.
“If my spouse and her program has wronged you, forgive her. To the MPs, if through our utterances and actions, we have upset or wronged you, find it in your heart to forgive me,” he added.
”As I sat here, I reflected that this is history repeating itself because we were right here as our President’s victory was being challenged in the Supreme Court in September 2022 and we came here for prayers and God saw us through,” he added.
DP Gachagua further asked Kenyans, particularly those living within the Rift Valley region to remain peaceful and leave the political duel he is facing to the leaders.
”I want to call upon the people of Kenya to remain peaceful and love one another irrespective of the outcome. Specifically, I want to appeal to our brothers and sisters in the Rift Valley where there are many communities who live there to leave this contest to leaders,” he said.
Gachagua was accompanied to the National Alter for prayers by a section of leaders from Mt Kenya region who have stood with him during the impeachment process.
The D-Day for the impeachment proceedings is on Tuesday when Parliament is expected to debate and take a vote on whether or not to impeach him and send the matter to the Senate that has the final say.
The DP is expected to defend himself on Tuesday and has assembled a big team of 20 lawyers to defend him after he dismissed all the accusations levelled against him as false.
