DP Gachagua assembles a galaxy of 20 star lawyers, vows to fight to the bitter end

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to fight his impeachment to the bitter end as he assemble a tough team of 20 lawyers.

This comes even as sources indicated that State agents stunned by the apparent popularity of the DP were trying to strike a deal with him.

One of the proposal being bandied around is a financial offer for the DP to resign and in the process scuttle the impeachment process.

The impeachment motion against Gachagua has backfired big time and has since his popularity soar as benefits from sympathy generated.

And as he prepares his defence, the DP assembled a group of 20 highly regarded and top lawyers in Kenya led by Senior Counsel Paul Muite. Others are Victor Swanya, Tom Macharia, Amos Kisilu and Elisha Ongoya.

The lawyers argue that the public participation process was inadequate, having only been allocated two days, which they claim violates constitutional requirements for citizen engagement.

They seek to contest all allegations against Gachagua and pursue the recusal of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and his deputy, Gladys Boss Shollei, from the impeachment process due to their prior public statements suggesting support for DP Gachagua’s ouster.

Gachagua’s defence team is planning pursue justice up to the supreme court.

The legal team is also prepared to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court if necessary.
