Big boost for border disease surveillance as MOH receives digital equipment

The Ministry of Health (MOH) border disease surveillance was boosted after it received donations of assorted digital IT equipment.

Health Principal Secretary Ms Mary Muthoni received the equipment from the European Union and the German government.

She said the support is part of the EU Digital Solutions to Strengthen Disease Surveillance and Monitoring Systems for COVID-19 in the IGAD Region.

“This is a major boost in our digitization of Health Management Information Systems, Lab Systems, and Surveillance Systems at vital border points in line with Government’s agenda,” she noted.

She said the seven laptops,37 desktop computers,37 UPSs, 37 power extension cables and 4 access points will be strategically distributed at critical boarder points of Busia, Malaba, Mandera and Moyale.

“These equipment will facilitate seamless communication and data sharing among border regions, to foster a more coordinated and cohesive response to public health threats, a key milestone in our quest to swiftly detect and contain outbreaks,” she said.

The PS said the support by the partners marks a pivotal moment in the collective journey to strengthen Kenya’s public health systems and nurture cross -border collaboration.

She said as a united team, they can combat outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics for a safer Kenya and Horn of Africa.
