Police launch crackdown on vehicles with illegal LED lights, blinding lamps and red and blue flickers

Police have announced a nationwide crackdown on vehicles including motorcycles with illegal LED lights, red and blue flickers and blinding lamps.

The crackdown follows a major proliferation of the illegal lights fitted on motor vehicles and protests from compliant road users who have been subjected to harassment and blinding lights especially at night at times leading to accidents.

In statement, the National Police Service said it had observed that several private vehicles, public service vehicles and motorcycle owners have unlawfully equipped lamps, modified illuminating lights, red light and opaque rear lights.

Others are flashing lights, flickering lights, LED illuminating bars, unauthorized sirens and unauthorized red and blue lights, which are all contrary to requirements of the law thus endangering the lives of road users.

“Through this, all vehicle owners are advised to adhere to the requirements of the law to avoid any inconveniencies,” said the statement.

The statement signed by police spokesman Bruno Shiosio further warned tour and commercial vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles have varied licenses including road service license and tour service license.
