Second consignment of 44,000 tonnes of fertilizer for tea farmers arrives in Mombasa

The second consignment of fertilizer imported by the Kenya Tea Development Agency Management Services Limited (KTDA MS) on behalf of smallholder farmers has arrived at the Port of Mombasa.

The ship carrying the balance of 44,000 metric tonnes (44 Million kgs) of fertiliser docked at the port on Monday 17th October.

The fertiliser is being packaged on site and will be transported to farmers upcountry.

The first consignment of 40,550 metric tonnes arrived on 19th August, 2022, and has already been distributed to farmers.

According to KTDA, the total consignment of 84,550 metric tonnes of the NPK 26:5:5 chemically compounded fertilizer was procured directly from Russia.

KTDA procures fertilizer in bulk for more than 630,000 small scale tea farmers, who are the shareholders of its managed factories, through competitive international bidding.

The fertiliser is distributed to the farmers through their respective factory companies.
