“I would rather have a fight with the few importers while I support the majority. We cannot continue to import chairs and tooth picks,” Moses Kuria.
Cabinet Secretary nominee for Trade Moses Kuria has announced that as soon as he is sworn in, he will ban importation of furniture.
He said Kenya cannot continue importing items like chairs and tables that Kenyans could easily make and that he was ready to deal with any resistance.
In what will be music to the ears of local furniture manufactures Kuria gave the example has already been set with local production of desks for schools.
He noted that the previous regime said all school desks should be made within the locality – an experiment he said was very successful.
Kuria who said the new regime has many brilliant ideas that once implemented will ensure that people have money in their pockets.
