Martha Karua receives a major boost as Kikuyu elders endorse her as Raila’s running mate, say she is most qualified

Former Cabinet Minister Martha Karua’s prospects of being the running mate of Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga were boosted yesterday after Kikuyu elders jointly endorsed her for the position.

In a joint statement issued in Nairobi yesterday KIkuyu Council of Elder (KCE) and Kiama Kia Ma chairmen said they would prefer Ms Karua to deputise Raila saying she was most qualified for the job and her record was very clean.

KCE chairman Wachira Kiago said after doing their investigations since November last year and moving around the country seeking views – Kenyans have returned the verdict that Karua was the best suited for the position.

Kiama Kia Ma chairman Nd’ungu Gaithuma said even though all other proposed candidates from Mt Kenya region were equal to the task, Karua stood heads and shoulder above them.

She said Karua is known for her strong beliefs, fight for democracy and human rights and has a good development record in the dockets she has served in.

Gaithuma said when it comes to integrity Karua stood tall above everybody else as she has never been associated in any corruption despite serving in the public offices form many years.

The Narc Kenya leader was praised as strong and principled leader that the country required during the next phase of development.

Karua is among several leading politicians who have been proposed to deputise Raila Odinga and who are already facing the panel of eminent persons that has been appointed to assist Raila in coming up with a running mate.

Others include Wiper leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka who despite saying he would not appear before the panel made his way through on Tuesday morning.
