Shock as veteran journalist and PR guru Evelyne Ogutu dies hours after delivering twins

The media and public relations fraternity was left in deep shock after the amiable Evelyn Ogutu died hours after delivering twins at a Nairobi hospital.

Ogutu who started off her communications career as journalist with the Standard Group before joining the public relations scene delivered twins at MP Shah hospital in Parklands at 8:30am on Friday morning but developed complication and rested at 3:00Pm.

A heartbreaking message set to friends said that Eve had a procedure to deliver her twins that went well and that the babies were okay, but there was a complication in the process where she was given medication to deal with the pain.

“Eve had a procedure to deliver her twins at 8:30am this morning. The procedure went well, and the babies are ok. However, there was a slight complication in the process, and they gave her some medication to deal with the pain. The medicine reacted badly with her. They have tried everything, and she finally rested at around 3pm,”

Shocked colleagues and friends expressed anger saying no woman should die while giving birth, while others paid glowing tributes to her.

Eve who has worked with several PR firms in Nairobi was the head of communications at Heinrich Boll Foundation.

RIP Evelyne Ogutu. May your memory be a blessing.
