Deputy President William Ruto’s tanga tanga political formation exploded in a spectacular fashion as falling out over who should lead negotiations for Mt Kenya continued unabated.
Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri – a boisterous member of the tanga tanga – came out guns blazing attacking former CS Mwangi Kiunjuri who had earlier dismissed tanga tanga as self seekers.
Ngunjiri dismissed Kiunjuri as a corrupt person, saying he was fired by President Uhuru for plundering the ministry of agriculture and not because of his association with Ruto.
Kiunjuri had claimed that he was fired from the Agriculture docket by Uhuru for his support for Ruto, but Ngunjiri refuted those claims saying Kiunjuri never helped farmers but instead oversaw the looting of the crucial ministry.
He claimed Kiunjuri used looted cash to buy himself a helicopter and to use the money to start his TSP party.
Ngunjiri used harsh words towards Kiunjuri including calling into question his morality and lack of integrity.
” I asked him to come and join us in UDA but refused and instead formed his own party. You were in the Agriculture docket, did you help anyone. you came out with lots of money and a helicopter,” said Ngunjiri
Kiunjuri had dismissed the tanga tanga MPs who had attended a three-day retreat with Ruto to negotiate for Mt Kenya region as lacking the mandate of the people and using the wrong methods.
He likened them to a lady who wants to negotiate with a man when she is pregnant and living in the man’s house.
Kiunjuri asked them to step out and negotiate from outside and to first seek the mandate of the people -agreeing with the position taken by the kieleweke faction of Jubilee that has been calling for structured negotiations with all presidential candidates and not just Ruto.
Kiunjuri had on Sunday night said there was trouble in tanga tanga as each of the MPs tried to get the nomination for running mate and he appeared to have been vindicated by Ngunjiri’s outburst.
The weekend retreat purportedly called to draft an economic blueprint and negotiate a stake for Mt Kenya in a future Ruto government has caused a massive fallout within tanga tanga with the group now cannibalizing itself.
It has also led to calls for Ruto to resign as DP as he no longer subscribes to the economic blueprint developed by the government he is still part of.
