Gangster shot dead, others arrested as police intensify hunt for criminals

A suspected gangster was shot dead in Thika and several others nabbed in Nairobi as police intensified crackdown on criminal gangs.

Armed.gangsters had threatened to take over Nairobi and other many towns stabbing and killing people in broad day light for several weeks.

Interior Security CS Kithure Kindiki on Monday ordered a crackdown on criminal gangs saying Kenyans will not surrender their security and freedom to gangsters.

In Thika, an armed thug was shot dead last night and mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from victims recovered.

The thug who was part of a three-man gang attacking members of the public along Cascade Premier prison road, was shot as he attempted to fight police officers.

His accomplices fled after police opened fire but one was cornered and arrested but a third one escaped.

The officers recovered two machetes, a homemade firearm and mobile phones suspected to have been snatched from innocent victims.

A numberless motorbike used by the thugs was also impounded by the officers who towed it to Thika police station as exhibit.

In Nairobi, three notorious thugs who rob Kenyans outside KCA university have been arrested and their get-away motorcycle impounded.
