Jubilee Party names Matiang’i deputy party leader, nominates him as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate

President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has nominated former power Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i as its deputy party leader and nominated him as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.

In a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held today and chaired by the former head of state, Mr Kagwe Gichohi was also appointed as the party’s Executive Director replacing Polycarp Hinga who has been acting for several years.

The party’s Secretary General and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni made the announcement in a press release issued after the meeting.

He said the Jubilee Party NEC convened at the Party Headquarters in Nairobi, chaired by the Party Leader Uhuru Kenyatta, to deliberate on key matters concerning the party’s leadership, structure, and strategic direction.

Kioni said the NEC, on behalf of the Party membership across the country, extended its deepest condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, Rosemary, Junior, Winnie, the entire Odinga family, the ODM fraternity, and Kenyans, following the untimely passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga. He added that the Jubilee Party stands in solidarity with the Odinga family and the nation during this difficult moment of loss.

He listed the resolutions of the NEC as follows;

Filling of Vacant Positions. The NEC resolved to fill all vacant positions within the National Executive Committee as follows:

  1. Deputy Party Leader: Dr. Fred Matiang’i
  2. Executive Director: Mr. Kagwe Gichohi
  3. Senate Whip: Hon. Ekomwa James Lomenen
  4. National Assembly Party Whip: Hon.Samwel Arama.
  5. Party Revamp and Membership Drive

The NEC has approved a comprehensive plan to revamp and re-energize the Jubilee Party through a nationwide mass membership registration and mobilization campaign. This initiative will focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots networks, rebuilding public confidence, and reaffirming Jubilee’s commitment to the values of unity, development, and democracy.

Presidential Candidature of Dr. Fred Matiang’i

The NEC has officially received and unanimously accepted the formal application of Dr. Fred Matiang’i to be the Jubilee Party’s Presidential Candidate.

Accordingly, the NEC has nominated Dr. Matiang’i to represent the Jubilee Party at the United Opposition Movement, as he continues to popularize his candidature and champion a message of progressive leadership, integrity, and national unity.

    Engagement with the United Opposition

    The Jubilee Party will formally communicate to the leadership of the United Opposition regarding the nomination of Dr. Fred Matiang’i as the official representative within the movement. The party reiterates its full commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Opposition, working collectively with like-minded political formations to build a strong, united, and people-centered alternative for Kenya.
