DP Gachagua blasts North Eastern MPs tells them he will not resign

A tough talking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has blasted MPs from North Eastern telling them he will not resign and was in government to stay.

Speaking in Maragua, Murang’a County, Gachagua breathing fire told the MPs that he was part and parcel of the government and should not be threatened by people who joined only recently.

He said while he mobilised Mt Kenya to contribute 87% of the votes to Kenya Kwanza their region only contributed 20%.

“We welcome them in government but they should know their place. When we were fighting for this government they were busy insulting us. They did not believe Ruto could win and called him all manner of names,” Gachagua said.

He was responding to calls by MPs from North Eastern Kenya who asked Gachagua to resign or they impeach him.

The tiff was sparked off after Gachagua called for the resignation of Noordin Haji the director general of National Intelligence Service for what he (DP) termed as a catastrophic intelligence failure.

Following the deadly demonstrations by Gen Z that spread to 32 counties, Gachagua said NIS had failed to advise the president properly and Haji should pack up and leave.

MPs from his region quickly ganged up and attacked Gachagua asking him to resign or be impeached over his statement on Haji.

Today in Maragua, Gachagua hit back telling off the MPs and went ahead to urge the youth to remain calm and not to engage in further demos.

He also spoke about his pet subject of one-man-one-vote-one-shilling, saying it was a formula good for the entire country not just the populous regions.

He was in Maragua to participate in the Maragua Education Endowment Fund in Murang’a County that aims at boosting learning programmes for needy students in the Constituency.

The event was at Kaharati Primary School in the Constituency where he was joined by host MP Mary Wamaua, Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa, MPs James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya), Benjamin Gathiru Mejjadonk (Embakasi Central), Teresia Mwangi (Nominated), and MCAs led by Area MCA James Karanja Wa-kabera (Kamahuha Ward) among others.
