Four new laws proposed to help country achieve universal healthcare says Health PS Mary Muthoni

The Ministry of Health is championing four crucial healthcare bills that will steer the sector towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Health Principal Secretary Ms Mary Muthoni named the bills as; The Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) bill, Primary Health Care Bill, Digital Health Bill and Facility Improvement Fund Bill .

She said the Bills are geared towards strengthening the Healthcare system.

Muthoni made the remarks when she graced the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers Annual Delegates Conference.

She said the government appreciates Human Resources for Health as a critical building block for the health sector and thus endeavors to empower and equip the healthcare workforce to enable them provide quality healthcare services to Kenyans.

During the conference, the Union presented a number of issues which the Ministry endeavours to address procedurally.

She said the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards has in the current fiscal year posted a total of 4129 interns from various cadres as a way of bridging theory and practice.

The Ministry has also operationalised the National Internship Coordination Committee to steer health sector internship programs and alleviate inefficiencies.

She called on the Clinical Officers and other critical Primary Care Cadres support the government Primary Care and digital reform initiatives.

As data generators, she urged them to help improve on data use management for overall efficiency.
