Big boost as civil society endorse Martha Karua for Raila’s running mate say the duo is the best bet for Kenya

“An activist is not a bad word but in Kenya, it is made to look dirty. I have been raised in a civil society. An activist is an engaged and activie citizen, and that is what civil society is about,” said Martha Karua

The Martha Karua wave continued to sweep across the country with Kenya’s renowned civil society groups endorsing her as the running mate for Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

In an elaborate breakfast meeting hosted in her honour civil society groups including anti-corruption xar John Githongo said the Raila/Karua ticket presented the best option for Kenya and that the two would initiate far reaching reforms in the country.

Speaking at the function, Karua said when she was in government people saw her as too much of an activist clarifying that an activist is not a bad word but in Kenya it is made to look dirty.

She said she had been raised in a civil society adding that an activist is an engaged and active citizen and that is what civil society is.

Karua said civil society is the representation of the active citizens and that there are many including in the villages and what they lack is forums where their voices can be heard nationwide.

She said there are very many active and engaged citizens who are represented by the civil society who have the voices and space to be heard across the country.

Karua said her hosting by the civil society groups for her was like homecoming experience.

After her appointment as the Azimio La Umoja running mate, Karua’s caused a political upset and created a massive following across the country giving Raila the much needed energy to in the race to win the August 9, presidential election.
