Safina Party gets new leadership as founder Paul Muite hands over to Jimmy Wanjigi

Opposition political party Safina has new leadership after its founder Senior Counsel Paul Muite handed the party to Nairobi businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.

The former Kabete MP and second liberation hero said it was time for the younger generation to take over the leadership of the party.

He urged the new leadership to uphold the ideals of the party that was at the forefront of fighting the Moi dictatorship ushering in the second liberation.

The new leader Jimmy Wanjigi said the party would rejuvenate itself and would ensure that the Kenyan youth take a centre stage.

Addressing the delegates National Youth leader Wangari Wangui urged the youth and specifically the Gen Z to join the party.

She said political parties are the route to power and government and urged the youth to be actively involved in the political parties.

She said for too long, the people have struggled under systems that enrich the few while leaving the many behind.

“Safina was born as an ark—a vessel to carry our people safely through the storms of corruption, poverty, and inequality,” she said.

Wangari said Safina’s vision is an economy that rewards hard work, not connections and a nation where young people have jobs, not empty promises.

A system where women and men alike can build businesses, own land, and grow wealth and a future where government is not a burden, but a partner in prosperity.
