Censure Motion against President Ruto filed at the Senate, set for debate

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has filed a censure motion against President Ruto at the Senate even as the much-awaited impeachment motion against his deputy Rigathi Gachagua has been tabled in Parliament amid applause by MPs.

Maanzo who fired the warning shot last week is accusing President Ruto of failing to protect Kenyans from police brutality and killings and a host of other accusations.

He further accuses President Ruto of reducing allocation to counties and delayed financing of the devolved units causing untold suffering to Kenyans are sick by failing to devolve Health and Agriculture fully as required by Schedule 4 of the Constitution.

The Senator says that the Constitution provides for rights and fundamental freedoms which cannot be limited, the right to freedom from torture and cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, right for fair trial bearing in mind the recent abductions, torture and disappearances of Kenyans.

He says under the Constitution, the President is the symbol of National Unity and shall promote and enhance the unity of the Nation; shall promote respect for diversity of the people and communities of Kenya.

Maanzo says President Ruto is in breach of the Constitution and that he has marginalized sections Kenyans, created and continues to heighten tension among different segments of Kenyans due to lack of proper public participation on SHIF, SHA, University Education fees module, Affordable Housing, Airport Leasing among others and therefore wants the Senate to censure him.

According to Maanzo, President Ruto and his deputy should be sent home together since they ran on the same ticket and that targeting only Gachagua was missing the problem by a mile.
