The onslaught against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua took a dramatic turn today after the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recommended serious charges against several of his key allies and supporters.
In what will be seen as yet another heavy blow to DP Gachagua, DCI wants several Members of Parliament (MPs) allied to him to face charges for their alleged involvement in planning, mobilizing and financing anti-gov’t protests.
Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru Mwangi is facing charges for soliciting/inciting others to commit an offense as outlined in Section 391 of the Penal Code.
The inquiry suggests that both MPs Mwangi and James Gakuya of Embakasi North along with George Theuri, Ngunjiri Wambugu and Mr. Pius G. Munene are correspondingly implicated.
There are also recommendations for charges of money laundering against MP Benjamin Gathiru Mwangi in connection with the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act.
The inquiry follows intelligence reports indicating that these MPs were implicated in organizing meetings at Hotel Boulevard in Nairobi.
In the report the DCI said they recommended the charges after conducting investigations on the planning, mobilizing and financing of violent protests that were witnessed in the country on 25th June 2024 where MPs James Gakuya and Gathiru Mwangi were implicated.
The two MPs have been the greatest supporters of DP Gachagua and have been following him wherever he goes heavily criticizing President Ruto’s government over its alleged mistreatment of the DP and failing to keep its promises.
They recently criticized the DCI for confiscating their telephone calls with Gathiuru saying with the kind of harassment he has received he does not believe he elected the current government and President Ruto.
