Raila comes to Ruto’s rescue urging him not to resign as Azimio coalition falls apart

ODM leader Raila Odinga has come to the rescue of besieged President William Ruto urging him to stay put and not to resign as demanded by Gen Z protestors, signaling a big change of heart as divisions in Azimio threatens to kill the official opposition coalition

ODM leader Raila Odinga has offered besieged President Ruto a major political lifeline by supporting calls for dialogue and urging him not to resign as demanded by Gen Z who have been protesting since June this year.

Gen Z took to the streets demanding that President Ruto must resign after occupying Parliament and later threatening to march to State House to eject him out, but Raila is asking them after Ruto resigns then what happens.

His argument is that if Ruto resigns, then his deputy Rigathi Gachagua takes over and will continue to implement bad policies.

Raila says the other option if Ruto resigns is for the military to take over and then the country starts going through what Egypt went through after the Tahrir Square revolution.

“Ruto must go cannot be an end. It is at times of crisis like this that a country needs to talk. We are not doing it to save Ruto. We are doing it to save Kenya,” said Raila.

While Raila insists his is a patriotic duty to save Kenya from going down to the ruins like many other African countries, many are not convinced and believe he has already signed a power sharing deal with the President that will see his people join the “broad-based Cabinet” that is being crafted.

Raila’s critics were quick to point out that if Ruto resigns, he would go home with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and that the Speaker of National Assembly would be acting President or the Chief Justice and hold elections within 60 days as per Article 146 of the Constitution of Kenya.

They say what Kenyans are asking for is a total overhaul of the entire system where fresh elections will place a new team in office.

While the ODM wing of Azimio La Umoja Coalition is fully supportive of the dialogue called by President Ruto the Jubilee and Wiper wings are totally opposed to any dialogue resulting in sharp divisions between the coalition partners.
