Govt to raise Sh 6B to buy coffee from farmers in war against cartels

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has plans to raise Sh 6B to purchase this year’s coffee crop from farmers to protect them from exploitative coffee cartels.

Speaking this morning at Inooro FM, DP Gachagua said already there is Sh 2b in the custody of the New KPCU that will be used in the venture.

He said the government will give another Sh 2b while another Sh2b will be sought from the Cooperative Bank of Kenya.

“This coffee of farmers we are going to buy. Our farmers will not sell their coffee to brokers. I ask farmers to be patient. Lets organise the money,” Gachagua said.

He said the coffee war is almost done and that farmers are about to win big.

Gachagua said he will not relent until he resolves the coffee and tea issues and will not spare anybody trying to reverse the reforms.

Gachagua said he is in talk with Americans and will be able to get direct market in the United States.
