“I have instructed our leaders and our MPs not to insult retired President Uhuru. Uhuru is our son and as a retired President he should be respected and allowed to enjoyed his retirement in peace. When our hearts mellow down, I will reach out and talk to him. We are there to support him,” said DP Rigathi Gachagua.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at seeking a truce with retired President Uhuru in a curious move days after the Cabinet reshuffle.
Political pundits say President Ruto’s Cabinet reshuffle that saw Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi emerge as the biggest winner may have given Gachagua reality check.
Even though he has downplayed the impact of the changes made in the Cabinet, it was apparent that Mudavadi now has more profile and prominence after the Foreign Affairs docket was added to him.
The changes affected mainly Cabinet Secretaries from Mt Kenya some who were already in the public eye over the handling of their dockets.
Speaking at Inooro FM on Friday morning, Gachagua in an apparent change of heart, said he will seek Uhuru and have talks with him when the time is right.
“When the right time comes and when our hearts mellow down, I will seek him and talk to him. I have said I shall talk to every one. I have been asked to bring all Mt Kenya together,” said Gachagua.
He said he has started an outreach to bring together all Mt Kenya together from the rich and the poor.
The DP said he will be meeting Mt Kenya golfers at the Nyeri Golf Club later in the month before proceeding to Naivasha to meet those from Rift Valley.
Gachagua said the strength of Mt Kenya is in the numbers and would work to ensure the region remains united.
The statement by Gachagua was immediately received positively in Mt Kenya region where calls for unity of the region have been growing louder by the day.
Pundits have warned that the elevation of Mudavadi means that Ruto may be widening his choices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
There has been growing uneasein the mountain with the increasing high cost of living and government’s inability to fulfil its many promises.
