Kenyans to access to quality and affordable health services soon – PS Muthoni

Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has assured Kenyans of government commitment to ensure they get access to quality and affordable health services without suffering financial burden.

Muthoni said the Kenya Kwanza government is working hard to ensure all Kenyans access affordable and quality healthcare leaving no one behind.

She noted that achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) requires not only financial resources but also a comprehensive understanding of the strategies that can enhance the health financing system by all stakeholders.

The PS said lack of financial risk protection mechanism has been the greatest obstacle to achievement of sustainable health financing, leading to a considerable burden on individuals and households resulting to catastrophic health expenditures.

As a result, she said the Ministry of Health is currently hosting the National High-Level Dialogue on Domestic Resource Mobilization for Sustainable Health Financing towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kenya.

The overall objective of this Dialogue is to mobilize and bring together all relevant stakeholders to jointly assess our progress, identify challenges and build consensus on health financing reform priorities.

Kenya has been recognized as one of the African countries that have made notable strides towards the African Leadership Meeting (ALM) 2019 commitment by increasing its health care budget allocation, enabling greater investments in health infrastructure, human resources and medical supplies.

She said the dialogue is a show of commitment to sustain the momentum.

The three day meeting brings together delegates with a wealth of knowledge and expertise to chart a transformative course for healthcare system anchored on effective collaboration, innovative solutions and shared goals to ensure that that every Kenyan has access to quality healthcare leaving no one behind.
