Rigathi Gachagua makes history as the first Deputy President to be impeached.

He put up a spirited defence including a two-hour press briefing but in one swoop, Rigathi Gachagua has gone down in history as the first deputy president to be impeached.

His fall from grace to grass was as dramatic as the events leading to the tabling of the motion that passed by a massive 281MPs.

This was 44MPs above the threshold of 233 representing two-thirds majority in the National Assembly required to send him packing.

Only a paltry 44 MPs voted to save the former Mathira MP with one absensia underlining just how outgunned he was in Parliament.

The mood in the August House was so poisoned against the DP that his spirited and convincing defence fell on deaf ears.

He had been charged with 10 counts ranging from corruption, intimidation, money laundering and insubordination among others.

The battle now shifts to the Senate who are the final arbiter in the matter. But if the mood in the National Assembly replicates in the Senate, the DP would better be advised to start packing.

After his impeachment DP Gachagua sought the solace of the Holy Bible where he liberally quoted verses and posted on his social media pages.

The quotes from the good book are reproduced below.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Jeremiah 30:19

“From them will come songs of thanksgiving
and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained.”

It is well.
