Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth has assured former Prime Minister Raila Odinga that he will get enough votes from Mt Kenya region to propel him to the presidency.
Speaking during an occasion where Raila was meeting businessmen from Kiambu at the home of the late Kiambu politician Nginyo Kariuki, Kenneth dismissed as baseless claims that it will be difficult to sell the ODM leader in Mt Kenya.
Kenneth said tanga tanga politicians who have all along been opposed to the handshake have been spreading lies that Raila could not be voted in Mt Kenya region.
He said on his part he will be voting for Raila as well as millions of other residents once he (Raila) begins his campaigns for presidency.
“Who says Raila has no votes in Mt Kenya? My vote is for him as well as millions of others. Raila has not even started campaigning. Once he hits the road some people will be in shock by the kind of support he enjoys,’’ said Kenneth.
Kenneth said what Mt Kenya region and entire Kenya requires are policies that can help people grow economically and not just empty slogans that mean nothing.
He said the people of Mt Kenya are hand working and their biggest interest is to grow economically and that is why they need to think very critically about which leader that offer the stability they need to work.
Kenneth warned that some politicians seeking high office had shown too much anger and bitterness that does not augur well to lead the country.
He described Raila as a selfless leader who has sacrificed his own ambitions for the sake of country with the handshake being the latest example of his high level of patriotism and love for Kenya.
Raila on his part dismissed the tanga tanga economic model of bottoms up saying it was merely an empty political slogan meant to hoodwink the people which even the propagators are unable to explain.
“There must be a concise, well-thought-out plan of rebuilding the economy. Our country will not afford to rely on promises built on untested economic models largely anchored on sloganeering,’’ said Raila.
