The 4th Senate to hold its first sitting today as business kicks off after the August 9, general elections

The 4th Senate will hold its first sitting today with the first agenda being the approval of Senators to serve in the Senate Business Committee (SBC).


Seven Senators have been nominated to serve in the crucial Committee in addition to the Speaker of the Senate, who shall be the Chairperson of the Committee, the Senate Majority Leader, the Senate Minority leader, the Senate Majority whip and the Senate Minority Whip.


Nominated Senators to SBC are Sen. Roba Ali Ibrahim, Sen. Veronica Waheti Nduati, Sen Wakili Hillary Kiprotich Sigei, Sen Maureen Tabitha Mutinda, Sen. (Prof) Margaret Kamar, EGH, Sen. Mwinyihaji Faki and Sen. Ledama Olekina.


The role of the SBC is to among others, prepare, if necessary, adjust the Senate calendar with the approval of the Senate; monitor and oversee the implementation of the Senate Business and legislative Programmes.


The Senate will also debate on H.E President William Ruto’s address during the opening of the 13th Parliament delivered on 29th September,2022.
